Newton Burcham

Newton Burcham

Newton Burcham is listed in Jerry Bails' "Who's Who of American Comic Book Artists", "The Comic Book Superstars" published by Krause Publications, and the Italian art book "Glamour" He began his career at age sixteen as a portrait artist and landscape painter. After a stint in the U.S. Navy he graduated from The Midwest School of Art and Design and began a long career in commercial art. Later he became the assistant inker to Tony De'Zuniga on "Savage Sword of Conan" and "Jonah Hex."

He created many new characters during the comics boom of the 1980's . Most notably the supernatural costume hero "Dark Wolf", a predecessor to "Spawn." In the 1990's he worked in the toy industry working on Godzilla, Tarzan, John Carter of Mars, Mars Attacks, Casper, Gumby and hundreds of others.

Newton is now inducted into the OCC Hall of Fame with fellow artists Neal Adams, Gary Morrow, Chester Gould, Archie Goodwin and many other noted creators.
